Two and a Half Men has been one of television’s most popular sitcoms since its very first show in 2003. The situational comedy features Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones. Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen) is a 40-ish, aging playboy bachelor with a very successful career writing commercial jingles. His lifestyle becomes very cramped when his brother Alan (Jon Cryer) gets divorced and is forced to move in with him, bringing his 10 year old son Jake (Angus T Jones) with him. Alan is a lot more uptight than Charlie is, and also more than a little jealous of his lifestyle. There’s a stalker ex-girlfriend, a nosy housekeeper, and a self-centered mother, which makes for some funny, yet risque comedy. If you’re easily offended you should stay away, but if you like fearless comedy you should come on in and laugh awhile.

One other reason why Two and a Half Men is so popular is because that Charlie Sheen’s role as Charlie Harper is seen as skewering his own foibles and reputation. Charlie Sheen has long had the distinction of being one of Hollywood’s bad boys, having done several stints in rehab and numerous times in court (both divorce and criminal). The show is  ”America’s Number-One Comedy,” according to CBS, and he just signed an agreement to return to the sitcom for another two years for a reported $1.78 million per episode. During the Winter Olympics, Two and a Half Men went up against them as a repeat, and still drew more than 10 million viewers. That’s very impressive, and it means that the show has some serious fans. It obviously does, with those kinds of numbers or a re-run.

After having confirmed his status as the highest paid actor on TV, Charlie Sheen is cutting ties with WME. Charlie Sheen is raking in a staggering $875,000 per episode from the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. But despite becoming the highest paid TV actor, ironically, he is asking his agents, his lawyers and his managers to cut commissions. Sheen is probably setting up a safety net in case he takes a break (forced or otherwise) for a while.
But who’s worried about Sheen not being handled by a representation agency? I don’t think even Sheen is anxious about this development. An independent Charlie Sheen would be viewed by any sane agency as a license to print free money, being one of today’s most prized entertainers. Any entertainment agency will be more than happy to take him in, and would work to come up with a satisfactory deal. Of course, that deal could be much more lucrative than his previous contract. In fact, rumor has it that Sheen could be signing up with CAA in the next couple of weeks. Who knows? Again, that wouldn’t come as a surprise.

With a hit show and studios that find Sheen an indispensable partner who can bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue, it’s quite possible to take an agent out of the picture temporarily.
